Summer holidays in Zillertal

There are certain things in life you can really count on. For example on the fact that the Zillertal Alps are truly beautiful – and that holidays in Tyrol are food for your soul.

Active holidays in the Tyrolean mountains

Did you know that groundhogs hibernate up to seven months? But they are active in summer. Especially in the high mountain nature park of the Zillertal alps.. And that is not surprising since this region is incomparably beautiful – when the alpine meadows bloom and the sun gilds the mountains. You can look forward to unforgettable adventures in the middle of the Tux mountain world, authentic Tyrolean delicacies in numerous huts and a diverse summer holiday full of sports and pleasure. The unique location in the midst of the Tux mountains makes the hotel Klausnerhof the ideal starting point for active holidaymakers, nature lovers and for your family holidays in Tyrol. 350 kilometres of marked hiking trails and Nordic walking routes of difficulty levels as well as 800 kilometres of optimally prepared biking trails await you! Caving, ice climbing, canyoning or high alpine mountain tours: There is barely a sport you cannot exercise during your summer holidays in Zillertal. Even skiing – in the middle of summer. This is due to the fact that the Hintertux glacier has a year-round 100% snow guarantee. But you are probably not going to see a groundhog up there.

“The summertime is particularly impressive in my homeland. The close connection between high alpine culture and natural landscape as well as the silence in the area are an energy source and inspiration for me at the same time.”

Some Zillertal highlights for families

Around the glacier:

  • Up to the Glacier Flohpark: There is always something going on at 3,250 metres above sea level, where you will find a snow playground at the Sommerbergalm that never melts. Snow carousel, bobsledding or a snowball fight in the middle of summer? Everything is possible! This top quality park was created in 2015.
  • The spectacular Nature’s Ice Palace is just around the corner. Equipped with a helmet, harness and safety rope, you can discover the innards of the Hintertux Glacier here. An icy adventure with ice caves, ice crystals and an ice palace!
  • Or maybe you fancy a spot of caving in the Spannagel Cave? An expedition for explorers of all ages that leads deep into the mountain over many kilometres. 500 metres of it can be explored on a guided tour.
  • Glacier bugs can then go on a different kind of adventure tour next door at the Sommerbergalm: where an exciting obstacle course awaits with water games, puzzles and a treasure hunt.

In the valley:

  • There are also plenty of things to do down in the valley, for example along the Tuxbach Adventure Trail: The valley hiking trail to Lanersbach offers children an exciting combination of play, sport and nature experiences. There is a lot to discover along the way: hay jumping, water games, slides, swings and more...  Children can collect points at various stations and exchange them for small gifts.
  • Children will find hidden surprises in the Tux Magic Forest, with which they can make some amazing things. At self-built dams, they can observe interesting river dwellers and even build a raft.
  • Water Walk: a children's festival takes place during the swimming parties at Finkenberg outdoor adventure pool every Sunday in summer. Children can let off steam to their heart's content with a choice of many play stations, a bouncy castle and railway.

Action, fun and nature:

  • The Tux and Zillertal valleys also offer many highlights for action-loving holidaymakers. You can paddle down the waters of the Ziller, for example, on the family rafting tour, take part in an exhilarating tour through the Zemmschlucht Gorge during family canyoning, defy your fear of heights at the high ropes course, fly like a bird on a paragliding tandem flight, or scale rock faces on the Zimmereben via ferrate climbing route.
  • Playarena in Tux offers lots of fun for little visitors in any weather over an area of 1000 m², with a go-kart track, adventure climbing tower, cinema and much more!  In the Playarena garden, you can build tree houses, try out bungee trampolines or simply explore the gigantic playground.
  • Animal and nature lovers are sure to enjoy exploring the mysteries of nature tucked away in the high Alps at the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. You may even be lucky enough to encounter eagles, chamois or marmots whilst hiking through the protected area!
