Discovering new heights during your winter holiday with the entire family

The winter hiking trails on the Eggalm, the Penken or the Sommerbergalm are a true challenge. But as a reward you can dine Zillertal specialities at rustic huts and panoramic restaurants – and it is absolutely worth it! If you want to enjoy the view without having to fight your way up, you can take the ropeway up to the different mountain stations. We compiled some hiking suggestions for ambitious guests or families, who want to go on an unhurried excursion:

The most beautiful winter hiking trails in Hintertux

1) To the Bichlalm: Take the bus Gletscherbus 1 up to the Sommerbergalm. There a beautiful hiking trail leads to the Bichlalm. After dining at the Jausenstation, you can descend back to Hintertux, either by foot or by bob-sleigh: Walking distance approx. 2.5 hours (please pay attention to the signs).

2) To the Sommerbergalm: Take the bus Gletscherbus 1 up to the Sommerbergalm. There a beautiful hiking trail leads to the Bichlalm. After dining at the Jausenstation, you can descend back to Hintertux, either by foot or by bob-sleigh: Walking distance approx. 2.5 hours (please pay attention to the signs).

3) Slow-paced valley hike: This hike is ideal to get accustomed to heights. You best take the sport bus to Madseit. Passing the hotel Bergland and the so called Goaßbrücke, you will reach the valley hike trail. Walk along the streamside until reaching Vorderlanersbach. In each village you have the possibility to take the bus back to Hintertux. The hike to Vorderlanersbach takes approx. 2 hours.

4) To the Lattenalm: Take the sport bus to Lanersbach and then the Eggalmbahn to the mountain station. Follow the marked path until reaching the Lattenalm and take a break at the rustic hut. Treat yourself to fine Tyrolean food on the sun deck and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view. The way back leads you through Gemais, a village with heritage-protected farms from the 16th century, and down to Lanersbach. Walking distance approx. 2 hours.

5) To the Grieralm: The unhurried hiking trail starts in Juns and takes you along the sled run up to the Grieralm. In wintertime, you can live it up on the five kilometre long sled run. In winter, the Grieralm can only be reached by foot or taxi. As the taxis drive on the sled run, there are certain timetables. Experience an evening full of hut charm on the beautiful Grieralm!

6) To the Höhlensteinhütte: The guest house is located at Loschboden, the high plateau above Tuxertal (1.740 m above sea level) and is surrounded by Tettensjoch (2.276 m) and Höllenstein (2.874 m). You can reach the Höllensteinhütte in winter through Juns or Lanersbach – either by foot (walking distance approx. 1 hour) or taxi (Siegfried’s Taxi, Taxi Sandhofer or Reinis’s Taxi).
